"Building a Renaissance Journal Book"
- Instructor: Pietro da San Tebaldo
Length: 2-4 hours

$16 for a 7x8" journal of 192 pages or…
$10 for a 4x7" journal of 144 pages
Description: Leather-covered journal books appear in Renaissance paintings from the Mediterranean to the Low Countries, in the hands of clerks, merchants, students and scribes going about their trades. Learn simple construction techniques which yield a beautiful notebook for use in your portrayal. Instruction is hands-on and most students will leave the class with their journal book complete or almost so. Completion time is 2-4 hours. Since this workshop occurs during prime party time at NOWM, class is wet; BYOB; bring enough to share.

“Bardic Circle”

Description: Starts during the Torchlight Tourney and continues until throats or inspiration dry up. Come with your best gnome story for a chance at the prize.

“Introduction to Archery and Basic Form”
- Instructor: Ambrosius filius Merlinus (Merlin)
Length: 1 hour
Description: Includes stringing the bow, basic repairs for bows and
arrows, and fletching arrows. No fee but donations welcome for handout.

"Fight like a German"
- Instructor: Warder Christian Fournier
Description: Learn fundamental techniques and principles of German
martial arts from the 15th and 16th centuries, and apply it to your
SCA combat today. This will be a fast-paced, active class: come in
comfortable garb (no armor needed), ready for a good workout. If you
have a rattan or rapier weapon that you love, bring it along.

"Intro to Commedia”

Length: 1 hour

Description: Have you wondered what Commedia del Arte is all about? Join us as we explore characters and Lazzi that make up the wonderful world of Commedia. We'll play games and do a few scenes as well. Age 6 and up.

“Persian Gold”
- Instructor: Milesent Vibert
Fees: $1 to $2 a person if you want to take your piece home. (This approximately equals the cost of the gold used.) no charge for the handout.
Description: A hands-on demonstration and discussion of 16th century Persian techniques for decorating the margins of illuminated manuscripts with gold. Hands-on portion is limited by materials, however auditors are welcome.

“Making Pouches”

Description: Children will make felt drawstring pouches using yarn and be introduced to three sewing stitches.

“Round and Round It Goes”

Description: After a brief history of rounds sung in period, there will be class participation learning 8-10 rounds of period origin, period themes and SCA filk. New songs have been added for those who have taken this class before. A class handout and a cassette tape are available.

“Basic Harp”

Description: An introduction to reading music and playing the Clarsach harp.

“Hand-knotted Pearl Necklace or Bracelet”
- Instructor: Giovanna Giovannelli
Length: 1 - 2 hours
Fee: $3.00 for necklace or $2.00 for bracelet
Description: Learn how to do hand-knotted jewelry such as pearl strands. Hand-knotting can be used for different applications, for example, between semiprecious stones, or with beads and a silk ribbon for a delicately feminine look. You choose: making the bracelet takes one hour; making a necklace takes two hours. Materials include silk string, glass “pearls”, French wire, clasp, needle or “T” pin, handout.

“Children’s Theater”

Description: The children will learn about the history of theater, and then prepare and rehearse a short play to be performed before evening court. No age limit, no fee.

“Basic Leatherworking”
- Instructor: Douglas MacFarlane
Length: 1 hour
Limit: 8 students
Fee: $5.00 for leather, needles, thread
Description: Learn to sew leather and make a simple leather pouch.

“Beaded Veil Edgings”
- Location: Merchant tent “Rabid Rabbit Creations”
Instructor: Lady Sarra Bossard, mka Quasar Morris
Length: 1 hour plus unlimited “hang around” time to finish afterwards
Fee: $5
Description: Hands on instruction of how to add beaded decorations to the edges of veils. All supplies provided and are included in fee. Participants should be old enough to manage tiny beads and needles. Please bring a chair or something to sit upon.
