FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Long live Their Majesties,” will be the cry heard throughout the day.
A viking King and Queen stand ready to ascend the Dragon Throne right here in Northeast Ohio. His Royal Highness EikBrandr and Her Royal Highness Runa, Prince and Princess of the Middle Kingdom, will be crowned King and Queen in a ceremony filled with color and pageantry on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at St. Stanislaus Church in Cleveland.
Prince EikBrandr and Princess Runa (also known as Theo and Linda Bouck) are members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts, skills and traditions of the pre-17th-century world. Theo and Linda Bouck are long-time residents of northeast Ohio and currently live in Russell.
As rulers of the Middle Kingdom, Their Majesties will command the combined might of fighters, fencers and archers to protect the borders of the Middle Kingdom – which stretches from Ohio through Illinois and also encompasses part of Kentucky, a nip of Iowa and a little bit of Ontario. Since it formed in 1966, the Society for Creative Anachronism has grown to nineteen kingdoms covering the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia. There are more than 30,000 paid members and around 60,000 participants total in the organization. The Middle Kingdom is the third oldest kingdom, having been founded in 1969.
Members of the SCA also study the “gentler arts” including costuming, cooking, metalwork, woodworking, music, dance, calligraphy and fiber arts. To learn more about the Society for Creative Anachronism, please visit www.sca.org.
