There will be a small token prize for every entrant on the winning side.

Also there will be a fashion show... the fashion show will not require documentation and will be loosely judged. See Lyonnete or Karl von Kohn for details on the fashion show.

Here Opens the Court of His Grace, Duke Syr Laurelen Darksbane, Baron Cleftlands

It is one of the great Privilages of landed Barons and Baronesses that We may at times speak for the Crown, so now hear the words of Bardolph and Brigh, King and Queen of the Middle Kingdom.

(editors note: For the important differences between Privilages and Rights... see Laurelen speech number 53)

We call forward Eldred of Gwyntarian.

Eldred of Gwyntarian and now for many years of the Cleftlands, has served Us long and well in kitchens and even more importantly in teaching those culinary arts. Few are the feasts in this area without his touch, whether he was in the kitchen himself, directing, preparing that one special dish or merely provided the guidence which allowed that feast to be sucessful.

We have all been at feast that made us feel as if we really were in a great hall at a groaning board, full and content with fine foods, and for those of us who have been at feasts that were not so we are especially grateful and so do We, Bardolph King of the Middle Kingdom and Brigh Our Queen bestow upon Eldred of Gwyntarian our Order of the Evergreen to all rights and privillages of this rank from this day forward without let or hinderance.

All the crown can do is offer an impersonal gratitude, let us add to this our personal gratitude and the gratitude of all who have enjoyed your feasts.

For his Lordship Eldred, Hoobah!

(and a smiling Eldred remarked how wonderful it was to finally not be outranked by his wife ;)

His Grace then adressed the crowd and asked "Who here went to Pennsic this year? And how many of you attended your first Pennsic?" there was some ribbing from the crowd that we /all/ attended our first Pennsic, and the second, and the third.... eh hem. "Of those of you who attended your first Pennsic /this year/, what do you remember most?"

Brent remembered most becoming engaged atop Mount Aislin (can anyone beat that??)
Bastian remembered being told 'welcome home' on his arrival
(there were more remembrances, but it was dark and this chronicler writes slowly ;) appologies. if you do have special memories of past events, LET ME KNOW! Especially Cleftlands events... they flesh out a Chronicle so nicely you know)

His Grace continued:

Pennsic is not the most pagent filled event we do, Coronations and Crown Tournements certainly surpass it for pagentry and ritual, however there is no other time like this, it is Pennsic where on a misty moonlight night with the scent of woodsmoke as darkness falls that the fantasy goes away, where the figures in cloaks look just as we've always belived it must have been.

This is a gift we can give each other and it doesn't just have to be at Pennsic where sleep deprivation, you forgot to take off your armor and despite staying up all night you intend to go to one of the early morning classes because it's your one chance to learn from Master or Mistress so and so. Keep this spirit, as we head into the busy work and pagentry of Coronation remember that moment that the fantasy went away, when it became real. What you bring to the SCA is important, and what feels real in your heart even if we know that no one ever really wore a cloak like that. Remember that moment because when you go to your 25th Pennsic war you still have to answer the question: What did you remember?

that is all.

There being no further buisness, this closes the Court of His Grace.

And that is all for this week...

In service,
