Archive : Minutes : 8-28-02Celebrity guest reporter: Lyonnete Nial opened the meeting with a big Hello and Welcome back! Followed by a resounding "Hi, Nial!" and a call from Shlomo that it was the "East Nial Virus!" The Baronial fighting group received the Order of the Dragon's Teeth at Pennsic this year. Hoobah! We're moving inside real soon. The Shore Center has said we may have a third room if we wish, for an extra $35-45 a month. This would be across from our current meeting rooms. Nial asked for a show of hands in support of getting the new room. It was asked if we could test-drive this for a few months, rather than committ, and Nial said yes, we could do it for a trial period, though we had to let the shore center know a week or two ahead of time. The show of hands was largely in support, so Nial will be moving the process forward. Nial will be stepping down as Seneschal in July of next year. If you are interested in the possition, see him. He would like a letter of intent. The 25th of September will be our Baronial investiture. We'll be on the first floor of the Shore Center, in the Community Room. This is the large room on the first floor in the center of the main hallway, it has two entrances and a small plaque by the more central door that says "Community Room". (It's also where we used to have Baronial meeting, once upon a time.) Angharad announced that there will be no 'feast' per se, but as this Investiture is also our Desert Revel, it should be a MAGNIFICENT desert revel. The cooks' guild will be meeting the Sunday before to plan and bake. If you are interested in cooking, but don't know what to do, see her or another Cook's guild member- they have a lot of period recepies on hand. It will be a banquet table of Doom and Sugar!(Tm) Nial asks everyone who has them to bring banners to dress up the room. We'll have the room starting at 6pm, with the investure starting at 7pm, so there'll be time to decorate. Please help set up and take down for this mini-event! Other events coming up in our area:
We need pavillions and shade flies and water jugs. See Darius if you can help out. Sarra Rex has the sign-up sheet. See her to get on it or you won't get into the fair for free! Speaking of getting into the fair, don't forget to come in the back entrance, which is at the top of the hill behind the food merchants. (walk left when facing the main entrance) The doors open at 10am for the public, we'd like as many of us there BEFORE ten as possible. Alda will be brining papermaking supplies, but she doesn't want to be the only one demonstrating papermaking. See her if you're interested in learning this craft and demonstrating it! Lady Alex has prizes for the tournaments, both heavy and rapier. Gift certificates to Applebee's, Pizza Hut, a $50 gift certificate to JoAnn Fabrics, dinner at Muldoon's... see her for details... and go out and fight for steak and fabric! Clariel will also be offering Door prizes to non-combatants! Show up to Baycrafters and you may get a prize! Marsailli will need help running the children's activities at Baycrafters. These are always our most popular activities. Please lend some time or materials. We have another demo September 19th here at the Shore Center. It's an Open House for the Shore Center from 6-10pm. We'll have space inside and outside. If anyone knows about press releases, see Nial. Archery starts up next Sunday. There will be an Archery Guild meeting Tuesday, September 17th at Bastian and Katy's house. See them for directions. If you shot archery at Pennsic, report your scores to Ian, they will be awarding Prizes at the guild meeting. Shlomo announced that Gladius the Alchemest received the Award of the Dragon's Heart at Pennsic. Hoobah for The Honorable Lord Gladius! Elisabella announced that a silversmithing teacher has offered to teach a private class in our area in exchange for crash space and food. See Elisabella for details. Limit to 6 students. Armorer's Guild: same bat-time, same bat-channel. (Thursday nights at Ealdred and Clariel's.) See Ealdred, Clariel, or Timothy for directions. They will be meeting at the Shore Center on Thursday, September 19th, to help with the Demo. The Chatelain's lending library is here! It arrived just before Pennsic. Alex will hopefully have them all in binders by next meeting and people can start borrowing them. See her for details. Aurora's T-shirts are here. See her to pick up your T-shirt. If you didn't order one- oh well, but see how pretty they are? If there is interest, she will place another order. Ser Nicholas announced that he is stepping down as Northern Oaken Regional Marshal. See him if you are interested in this position. You need not be Chivalry to apply, any marshal or MIT can apply. The Case Medieval Society had a demo this week, and got about 50 people signed up on their mailing list thanks to the efforts of those who came out: Pietro, Sarra, Edward Brackenburye and Milesent. Hoobah! If you made anything for Pennsic- it's an A&S project! Let Edward Brackenburye know what you've done so he can record it in his quarterly A&S report. He will be sending out a reminder to this mailing list when it's nearly due. There will be dancing after meeting, over where the fencing list was. His Grace had a few words to say on the occasion of our fighting unit recieving the Dragon's Teeth. In short, that our unit has always been counted on by the Midrealm, always given the hardest jobs. We have a lot of chivalry active in our group, and a lot of very talented fighters. Cleftlands is at the heart of Draco Invictus. Non-SCA announcements: Lord Dugal Kerr visited Shlomo and Isabella while most of us were off at Pennsic. He sends his regards, and rumor has it he has become engaged to a lovely lady from Hong Kong. Angie has a sofa bed that needs a home. Ephraim is looking for a bike rack to borrow for the weekend. If you live on the west side and can lend one, see him. And that is all for this week, muddled though the reporting may be.
