Lübeck's first meeting acting as Seneschal (no rotton tomatoes were thrown, I'd say a sucess) ;)

EVENTS:

11-13 - Oaken Melee School IV {Alderford} [Roswell, OH]
- Summer Event/ Pheon Festival {Fenix} [Cincinnati, OH]
18-20 - Push for Pennsic {Hawkes Key} [Troy, OH]
19 - Brawl at the Crooked Dragon Tavern {Falcon's Quarry} [LaGrande, OH]
- Rose Tourney & Emprise of the Dragon's Chalice {Roaring Wastes} [Fenton, MI]
25-27 - Simple Day

News from Brawl:

There will be a two man rapier melee with rubber band guns, Vincent has volunteered to be the target!

Heavy weapons will have the usual disguise your weapons to get 'em into the tavern fight, the prize will not be given to the best fighter but rather for the best schtick and best death judged by a pannel of impeachable experts.

There will also be unit maneuvers practice and authorizations. Brawl at the Crooked Dragon is opposite Rose Tourney, come out and show your support for your neighbors. Should be an entertaining event, see Brice for details.

SCA Buisness:

Armourer's guild is meeting as usual on Thursday night at Eldred and Clariel's. Timothy's still looking for someone to take over the guild.

There will be cannon crew drills after meeting next week, if you are on the cannon crew don't forget your gloves and fencing mask.

This friday there will be an amunition making bee for the rubber band cannons at Jehenne de Lur's home. See Fitzranulf for directions.

Edward Fitzranulf and Pietro are putting together a bid for the January event. Their proposed theme is: An Irregular Event in Cleftlands: Poland, the feast of Saint Clairiel. If you are interested in being on staff and helping with the bid, see Pietro or Fitz.

Scribes, myfanwy sent out an email to a lot of you, the Pentemere regeon has only about a dozen scribes and was hit with a 45 scroll list for Rose Tourney. Help is needed to fill out the scrolls for that event, and more are expected to be needed for Simple Day. Calligraphers especially are needed as we do have some blanks. For details see Guenhwyfar (our local signet) or myfanwy (the regional)

Editor's note: We do have a scribe@cleftlist.cwru.edu email list. If you are a scribe and would like to be on the list, go to the cleftlist webpage: http://cleftlist.cwru.edu/mailman/listinfo and sign up. (myfanwy, I didn't get your email, maybe this is a better solution than keeping a list yourself?)

Needleworkers: if you have finished hoods and tabbards, please remember to return them to the guildmistress for distribution. If you have found you cannot finish the hoods or tabbards you took, please return them so that we can re-assign them! For details see Lyonnete or her doppleganger.

If you are travelling to far flung events, Katerien ferch G. would like to talk to you about distributing flyers for the Midrealm Warriors Project, see her for details.

Archery is meeting at Albion woods Saturday 11 to 1 and sunday at Lucus archery from 1 to 3, note that there is no marshal scheduled for this sunday's practice. You are welcome to shoot at Lucus as a private citizen, however.

If you are interested in Stained Glass or Enameling, talk to Lady Alex.

DEMOS:

Baycrafters! labor day weekend, tents are needed, fighters are needed, sundry 'stuff' is needed! See Darius or D'lante for details. Also tourney prizes are needed, if you have a prize to donate see Lady Alex.

Euclid City Faire - just one week after Baycrafters, Saturday September 6th and Sunday September 7th. We will be in a shaded area, lots of trees means that being able to plan out pavillion arrangements would be good. If you are planning on bringing a pavillion, see Sarah Rex (Lady Akizuki) and let her know the size of your pavillion. Tourney prizes are also needed for the faire, again see Lady Alex. Fighters, Marshals, neat stuff are all needed. This is the first year Euclid is trying a Renn Faire theme and they're hoping we will add a lot of atmosphere!

NON SCA:

Lady Lady Jehenne de Lur has a new tent, and therefore needs to sell her old one. It is a 10 by 14 cabin tent, needs some sealing on the seams but should survive another Pennsic well. See Fitzranulf for details, he has the tent with him tonight if you'd like to see it.

Great Lakes Medieval Faire Warhorse productions still needs squires. See Theresa if you're interested, it's a lot of fun and you must like horses. They especially need people for... the first two weeks of August. Know anyone who's not going to Pennsic? See Theresa.

Christina of the Black Rose Inn still has a stereo stand to sell, see her, she wants it gone!

Lady Akizuki is still holding begining Japanese conversation classes on the stairs at 8pm each meeting night, see her for details. arigato.

HERE OPENS THE COURT

of thier Excellencies, Sir Ephraim and Lady Madelaine, Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands:

It is a duty of Barons and Baronesses that they may, at need, speak for the Crown and so:

Stephan atte Smythe was called forward and presented with his Award of Arms, given by Alys and Valharic almost exactly one year ago, July 6th, 2002. Hoobah!

Mirrim 'The Mouth' Shinrone (apparently the scroll did say 'the mouth'. Indeed, these are the words of our King) was presented with her Award of Arms, given at Northern Oaken War Maneuvers last month.

Duchess Emelyn was called forward to be presented with her Dragon's Heart scroll.

That buisness taken care of, Sir Ephraim wished to commend several other cleftlanders. 11 of our number were listed in the Pale this month, not for awards but for being Champions.

Queen's Champion for north oaken: Brice
Archery Champion for north oaken: Edward Brackenburye
Belted Champions commander: Sir Alaric
Belted Champions team: Syr Theo
Unbelted Champions commander: Conrad (soon to be disqualified for that post!)
Unbelted Champions team: Lothar de Normandie, Stephan von Lubeck
Archery champions team: Gladius the Alechemist, Zuriel Nightshade, Edward Brackenburye, Graybar of Wayne
Rapier champions team: Edward Fitzranulf

hoobah! for our champions. Obviously without the Cleftlands, it wouldn't be much of a war. Fortunate for the other baronies that there is no Scribes Champions team. ;)

Ephraim and Madelaine regret that they were not able to be here last week for the ancient and time honored ceremony of the passing of the keys. Welcome to our new seneschal, Stephan von Lubeck, please don't wear him out too fast.

Ephraim asked past seneshals to step forward, in attendance was Sir Alaric and Lady Bronwen Elvina. Other former Cleftlands seneshals still active in these middle ages include: Duke Syr Laurelen (our second seneschal, he was predated by Swami), Mistress Gwennan O'r Afon Redeg (the one, true Seneschal, she held the office 6 years), Master Aiden Elfeadur, Master Talan Gwynk, Sir Ephraim ben Shlomo, Lord David le Ymagour, and Lord Nial.

(editors note: A semi complete list of past baronial officers is on our website at: http://cleftlands.cwru.edu/archive/officers.asp)

Ephraim noted that the job has changed a lot since he held it. Don't be afraid to approach Steve, just don't attack him (unless you're both in armour and on the list field, of course). The Baron and Baroness also expressed their gratitude to Lord Nial for his service during a time of unprecidented challenges. It is good that our new seneschal has the fortitude of a Champion.

Here closes the court of the Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands.

Steve reminded everyone to please pay their tithe and have a good evening.
