Vashti opened the meeting with a happy note: Nial’s back! We have a seneschal!

Don’t forget that we do pay for the meeting site, and ask $1 from non-combatants, $2 from combatants, if this is your first meeting, please, it’s on us.

Upcoming Events:

11-13 - Melee in the Woods {Stonecroft (Rivierre Constelle)} [Petersburg, IN]
- Collegium Arteum Vulgarum {Donnershafen} [Gaylord, MI]

19 - Spring Revels--A Cleflands Standard Bearers Event {Cleftlands} [Strongsville, OH]
24-27 - Blackstone Raid Xii {Barony of Blackstone Mountain} [Charleston, WV]

Of course there’s an event coming up: Standard Bearer’s!

Event web site: http://cleftlands.cwru.edu/sb03.html

Christina would like to see most of your faces there, as this is a baronial event. The schedule of events are on the chalkboard. Feast menu up on the board: but you know it’s subject to what Ealdred can get that morning. See him for restrictions and the like.

Need people- 3-5ish to put up caution tape Friday night. Give your name and phone number to Christina so she can organize with you. There was a staff meeting after baronial meeting.

From the Rapier marshal, Snowden: SCA time isn’t going to happen with the rapier! Fencing starts 10am on the nose. If you have not stepped up before 10, you aren’t going to be fighting in the tournament. Remember, as the first of the three championships, it is crucial that this one be on time. The details of the tournament will be revealed Saturday. List opens as soon as site, to warm up, have inspections, authorizations, etc. So, fencers: show up early!

Katerine du Val: In addition to Fri. Afternoon caution tape, Saturday morning we’ll be setting up early, the only thing we can set up in advance is caution tape. So see Katy or come early 8am on Sat. to help set up the event site.

Darius: Elayna and I are archery marshals. Range opens at 10am there will be achildren’s tourney at 1pm and the list for the tournament will close at 1:30 – inspect by then or you can’t shoot.

Bastian: I’m going to need help during the day to make sure people don’t walk PAST the caution tape. Needs volunteers to mind the site. See him for details.

Angharad: we will be having a solar: an arts and science area set up in a cabin, or outside if the weather is good. There are a few people scheduled to host during the day, but all crafts are welcome. Emrys will be carving, Guenhwyvar will be teaching scribal stuff, and a guest from St. Joan’s college will be demonstrating jewelry and lampwork beading. Whatever you want to do, there will be a variety. There will be lapis lazuli paint project by Aiden (also going on now at meeting.)

There will be a feast. It will be excellent. But it will need to be served. We need servers, see Anghard. It always helps.

Emelyne wants your money. She is gatekeeper.

Vashti would like help heralding so she has a voice left by the end of the day.

Anything else for the event? There will be a children’s archery championship 1-1:45. bring your wee ones.

Nial found a Pale: The closest thing this weekend is Michigan and Fiarview Ill, Peterberg IN, Mellee in the woods. The weekend of our event there are no events within our immediate area at all. Also, up and coming soon is NOWM. Anything on that: Steve will wait until after Standard Bearer’s is done to make announcements.

Darius will be in charge of waterbearing for NOWM, start saving milk jugs now and CLEAN them. We don’t want to drink fuzz!

Regular SCA business:

Armorer’s guild is meeting this Thursday at Ealdred and Clariel’s as usual. Also: Timothy is looking for a successor as Armorer’s Guild head. He didn’t know much when he took the post, you don’t have to be an expert. See him for details.

Rutgur: the rattan purchase: order got out late, but we should have sticks for next week’s meeting. Second, gold key: his lady would like to release gold key to some other worthy gentle prior to NOWM, please see Rutgur or Nial.

Midrealm warrior’s project continues. See Katerin ferch Gwenllian for details.

Darius again: Thank you, everyone who went to the last two demos, one at a school, one with brownies. Up and coming one on the 25th. I am stepping down as Demo Coordinator at the end of this year. See him for details. He has 3 candidates so far.

There is a demo at Parkview intermediate school in Fairview township. They will feed us good food, on the 25th. See Sarah Rex for details.

Elayne: archery this Sunday is the last Sunday before standard bearers 1pm Lucus archery. Show up and practice!

Nial: thanks everyone who came to brewer’s guild. Brewed two beers and a couple cordials. (Timothy jokes: I thought you’d get at least a six pack!) We’re going to try and make six batches for NOWM. See Nial for details.

Ealdred: a good time down in Oxford. Had the gall to mention some minor feat of arms completed by Lyonnete at the end of a long day of getting her butt beat into the ground like a shell-less newbie when we all know Ealdred was the real baronial hero at the event, winning not one but TWO rapier tournaments with style and pinache in the very cold weather. (This announcement edited by minutes taker. hee hee.)

Elayna needs Trash bags, grocery bags to clean up after the kids. (Missed most of this announcement, think it has something to do with the children’s archery shoot. See her for details.)

NON-SCA:

Christiana cleaned out her jewelry box; up for grabs on the table.

Lakewood English Country Dance this Friday. See Angharad, Alda, Aiden, etc.

Nail forgot: Brewer’s guild meeting 28th (last Monday of the month.)

CWRU Medieval Society will be having a Hafla on the same day as Standard Bearers! If you’re into middle eastern stuff and make it to that instead of Standard Bearers, we might forgive you.

Preceding the halfla, there will be a drum practice for people who want to learn how to be drummers.

SCA business forgotten : In may, the archery guild will be painting targets at meeting. If you like to paint, we’ll give you aspot on the floor and something to paint.

From the Baron

Ephraim: Congrats to Lyonnete and Ealdred for their feats of prowess this past weekend. It should come as no surprise, not just as they are Cleftlanders, but Lyonnete, after all means lion and Ealdred, after all, means business.

Please give your attention to the marshals for standard bearers. We have asked them to run things on time and it seems they are taking us at our word. Please give them the courtesy of showing up on time.

If you are competing in one of the championships, as in years past we ask that you answer a question: What is it that keeps you coming back to SCA? There are some things that must draw us here that draw us to events like Unicorn like NOWM like Pennsic war, even just to Wednesday night meetings. What is it about SCA that you don’t get in the modern world that make you put on 60 lbs of armor or ink stain your hands? Your answers will be presented at feast.

One final note: If you wait until next Wednesday you will be TOO LATE to meet the modern world exchequer. Apr. 15th is next Tuesday. (This financial advice provided free of charge.)

Nial has membership forms: don’t forget Pennsic coming up. That’s all: we have about 40 mins or so left.
