Archive : Minutes : 2-6-02Deputy seneschal Rutgur opened the meeting with a nice loud round of "Hi Nial!" so that Lord Nial can read it in the minutes and know he is missed. Events:
This weekend: Saint Val day in Kalamazoo Mi Falcon's Quarry sends word that their Brawl at the Crooked Dragon Tavern event will be happening despite the missing Pale ad, more info on that event as June draws nearer. Looming on the horizon: Coronation! There will be a Coronation staff meeting on Tuesday, Feb 12th at Muldoon's tavern at 7:00pm. They have a private room, the downstairs party room, normal menu and prices apply. Volunteers are needed everywhere, especially for set up friday night, they will be setting up Four floors of the event site, every hand will be needed to move many tables and set up the site. Marsaili is looking for a dedicated Children's deputy for the event, she has some fun activities planned for the kids See Marsaili if you'd like to volunteer. The event has a Byzantine theme, there was a recent Complete Anachronist about Byzantine costume, Rutgur has a copy. If you want a new costume for the event, now's a good time to have already started it. SCA Buisness:There will be no Armourer's guild meeting this thursday as the host is out of town. Armourer's will resume next week as normal. See Timothy for details. There is a section of the Cleftlands website devoted to the arts and sciences, and it is woefully barren! If you have hand outs or research on past projects you wouldn't mind sharing with the Known world, see our new A&S minister, Lord Edward Brackenburye or the webmistress. (Heck see the A&S minister even if you wouldn't like to share with the known world, he'd like to know about it anyway) There will be two A&S classes at the February desert revel, February 27th. One on begining fencing and one on the game of Mahjong. See Lord Brackenburye for details, more classes will be coming including a figure drawing class for scribes taught by Milesent. If you have receipts for January Event expenses, please get them to Sir Ephraim or Duchess Emelyn tonight, they'd like to close the book on the event. If you have receipts but don't have them tonight, please see Sir Ephraim. Master Aiden is starting a series of Scribal workshops taught at his home the third tuesday of the month. The next would be February 19h. See Master Aiden for details. This weekend there is a combat archery get together at Sir Will's. He has flyers with directions. There will be a demonstration of combat archery and discussions, training. Of note to combat archers who wish to be a part of the archery unit for this Pennsic, the deadline for Combat Archery only authorizations has been moved up to the end of April. Sir Will is confident about getting archers ready for authorization by then, if you can't get your armour together in time, you can always borrow equipment for authorization and spend the remaining time to war getting your gear together. See Sir Will for details. The deputy Seneshal noted that there is about $33 in the tithe basket, seems a little light. Have you paid your tithe? Demos:The Irish Cultural center is looking for help with their St. Patrick's day celebration, Sunday March 17th, see Darius or Culainn if you'd like to help out. Stone Creek Grove, a local pagan religeous group, is looking for a Dance demo for their Beltaine celebration May 5th. See Darius or the dance guild mistress, Milesent, for details. Darius is waiting to hear from Shaker Heights schools about another upcoming demo, and in May, June and July there is a camp for kids with diabeties looking for some day and weekend demos from us. Lady Alex is friends with the camp staff and impresses that these are older kids and potential new members. Fighters especially are needed for those demos. More details as the time draws nearer. NON SCA:Alda is putting in an order to Pen and Ink books, if you'd like to combine an order with her, let her know. Pen & Ink books is a great supplier of hard to find scribal materials. Bronwen cleaned out her closet... not as exciting as when she cleans out her garb closet, but she's got some stuff that'd like new homes. See her if you're interested. Edward Fitzranulf has another unwanted item that just wouldn't fit in Bronwen's closet: a 1992 Nissan Sentra, it's in good condition, gets great gas mileage. See Fitz if you're looking for a new car. Lord Nial's movie night is still on, the "in service to the dream' movie will be shown. There's a flyer on the table, see myfanwy for details. This friday the mundane English Country Dance group meets in Lakewood. It's a lot of fun, they do some period and a lot of post period dances and there is a live band. See Angharad, Aiden or Angie for details. From His Grace:How many people here are connected to computers and the internet, email electronic media and all that fun technological stuff... (many hands raised) And of you, how many have visited the Cleftland's website? (about the same number) And of you, how many have visited the History section of that website? Not nearly as many. If you find yourself with ten minutes to waste on line, check out the history collected on our webpage, it's of particular interest to those of us who are the victims... er... subjects of a lot of that history. We are not recreating history in the SCA so much as creating our own history and you get busy, turn around and ten years have gone by. You're still working on the projects you started for Pennsic three years ago. The Cleftlands has a rich history and we've influenced the Middle Kingdom in many ways along the way. A lot of work went into our website, it has a lot of real information, is useful and enjoyable as opposed to some other sites out there which have a few personal stories and pictures only amusing to a small group and a list of how many people visited the page since it was last updated... in 1994. Webmistress's note: A lot of that history is blank spots and lines which say things like 'and we had an event on this date.' If you were around and can fill in some of those blanks and personal memories, I want them! http://cleftlands.cwru.edu/archive/ From his Highness: nothing tonight. carry on.
And that is all for this week... In service, |
