Archive : Minutes : Minutes 11-27-01Lord Nial opened the meeting with a reminder that we do pay for this space, please remember your tithe. We ask $1 from everyone, $2 from combatants. If this is your first or second meeting, please be our guests. Events:Christmas Tourney in the Barony of the Flame Cook's Symposium in Ontario. Her Highness will be in attendance and teaching a class on sugar paste. Despite rumours to the contrary, Her Highness will have two attendants with her for the event and doesn't expect to need more. Next week there is a Red Spears event and looming ahead, The January Event:If you have anything special you'd like to have happen at the January Event, see Ephraim or Sarah Rex soon, we have less of the site than we had for Pandidactium or Coronation (Just the main floor and lower level) and therefore less places to put things. Space is running out, there will be a Pun Contest, classes, a scroll contest and more. Milesent is coordinating classes, see her if you're interested in teaching. She'd love anything on a mongolian theme. Timothy is the troll for the event, he's looking for a lot of volunteers, he's hoping to keep troll duty down to 2 hour shifts so that all the trolls get to actually enjoy the event too. Anyone interested in possibly making site tokens for the event, please see Sarah Rex. SCA Buisness:Her Highness sends regrets that she was not able to attend meeting tonight, she is feeling a bit under the weather. If anyone has something they have to get to her, please give it to Madelaine, she'd be happy to deliver it. Their Highnesses have mentioned having a Byzentine theme to their Coronation, in response to inquiries our needleworkers guild mistress has pulled together some documentation of Byzentine costume. See Madelaine if you're interested. If there is enough interest, she may arrange a class. Armourer's guild is meeting thursday night, Eldred and Clariel's House, bring your armour, Eldred'll provide the food. Scribes, Guenhwyfar will not be able to attend the January Event, in her sted Olwen will be taking care of organizing scroll assignments for the court. Also, the Oaken regeon is short blank scrolls, make blanks! If you're interested in becoming a scribe, please get your phone number or email adress to Guenhwyfar, she's going to arrange a class at a later meeting. Also, anyone interested in hosting the scribe's guild for a meeting please see Guenhwyfar... she'd host everytime, but folks don't like to drive all the way to her house in Twinsburg. December 19th will be our last meeting for December, and will be a dessert revel. As it is a short month, fighting will be allowed but combatants must bring a dessert (Or dance?) in order to be allowed to fight. If anyone has sugestions on how we can utilize meeting space better to accomodate dancing, fighting and fencing... please see Nial. Archery guild is meeting tuesday at Edward Brackenburye's, bring a dish. Marshal's reports are due December 1st, that's archery marshals and heavy weapons too, Ser Nick is our regeonal heavy weapons marshal so it should be easy for all heavy weapons marshals to get their information to him as soon as possible... Sir Ephraim... ;) Anyone filing reports with regeonal officers, Lord Nial would also like a copy for the Baronial records and Domesday. There is a new issue of the Forum, enjoy! Your webmistress brought in a printout of the Baronial Directory she has on her computer, take a good look at it, give me corrections and opinions on the layout. The Brewer's guild made 6 gallons of Orange Spice mead last night, they'll be meeting again December 18th to brew beer and cordials. See Nial if you are interested in Brewing. Scouting rules have changed, scouts see Darius for details on the new armour requirements. As always he's interested in new scouts or stealth scouts. The position of Minister of Arts and Sciences is still open. Please see our current MoAS Karl or Lord Nial if you're interested, or submitt a letter of intent. DEMOS:We have a demo December 20th, that's a thursday? in the evening, 7pm ish, in Cleveland Heights at Oxford Elementary school. Darius is especially interested in hearing from fighters or fencers who can attend. Non SCA Buisness:Christina of the Black Rose Inn has a box of stuff. She doesn't want to take it home. Please look, all of it is free to a good home. There's a new book out "Dragons of the Cuyahoga" the author camps with NewBridge at Pennsic, it's a great book, takes place in Cleveland and has elves with semiautomatic weapons in it. Buy it. There is a book signing at Mac's Backs in Coventry on December 7th. (Here His Grace mentioned something of a gift once given to Her Grace along those lines from a certain Duke... therein lies an interesting tale no doubt) Hoobah for Jason and Ann, newly engaged! From His Grace:Speaking of elves... The Tolkien elvish resources he mentioned last week are here. If you are interested in the elvish language, please see His Grace after meeting. Secondly, there is a line in today's Forum about the Baronial Charter "a suprisingly very clam and relaxed proceeding" No one should be suprised it was a calm and relaxed proceeding. Every social group develops a pecking order, even anarchists find a way to organize. The group who got together to draft the charter managed get through what in other places was a painful proceeding in a few hours of civil convrsation and genuine concern for the welfare of the Barony. In a lot of other places they've spent two years on charters and still haven't managed to get through it. Do not be suprised when Cleftlands is used as an example to the rest of the kingdom saying 'Well, Cleftlands managed it easily, why can't we?' Do not be suprised when people care enough to take care of buisness without concern for themselves, but for the greater welfare of the group. That is what makes our barony special. (at this point someone called for a hoobah for the charter committee which was met with much applause.)
And that is all for this week... In service, |
