Archive : Minutes : Minutes 1-30-02Minutes for Baronial Meeting January 30, 2002 Lord Nial called the meeting to order with a note that twelve individuals recieved awards at the event on Saturday, and a hearty Hoobah to them, as well as the eight new members of the order of the Winged Trine. (Our Baronial Award.) He then reminded everyone that we do pay for the site, we ask $1 each from non-combatants, and if you're fighting tonight... why? It's desert revel! Anyone who has an opinion on whether or not we should reserve a third room to provide space for the dancers and children during meetings while we are still indoors, see Nial. Up and Coming events in February:
1-3 - Tropical Parad-Ice V {Mistig Waetru} [Calumet, MI] At Pennsic, then-Queen Alys Katharine of the Midrealm and Queen Roxane of the East want to show their pleasure with the entrants of the A&S Exhibition by providing each entrant with a token. For this, they need a design. The final product is envisioned being a disk approximately 2” in diameter with a hole at one end to attach it to a ribbon or something else. Please see Their Highnesses' website for more details: http://cleftlands.cwru.edu/royalty/default.asp -----And here begin the Thank Yous for the January Event:------------ Lothar thanks everyone who helped with setup and take down, he'd have looked pretty silly doing it all himself. Bastian thanks everyone who helped with last-minute cardboard wall construction. Timothy thanks the four to five gentles who helped him out at troll, their service was greatly appreciated. Angharad sends her undying gratitude to James the Tactless, Chisato, and a gentleman whose name she forgot, for mopping and cleaning up the kitchen, allowing the kitchen staff some time to re-discover they had feet! And, of course, thanks to everyone who helped in the kitchen and wore thier little feet out too. Francesca thanks Aiden and Hely for spending all day making poppyseed buns. Katrine, who was not at meeting, sent her thank-yous via proxy to all the servers and to Katheryn verch Rhys for helping organize serving. Maria Vincente de Castilla thanks everyone who helped set up the merchant hall. Pietro thanks the heralds who worked throughout the day, one of which was even injured in the line of duty! Nothing serious, though, he promises. Ser Nick thanks his marshals, the list heralds, and especially Silverthorn for handling some dozen authorizations while Nick marshalled the barrier tourney, and Alex for running the list tables like a pro, giving him options for how to run things rather than asking "What do you want?" Regan thanks everyone for keeping the chirugeons NOT busy, and would like to announce that Lady Alayne is now an official Journeyman Chirugeon, so now we have two warrented chirugeons in the barony! (Ironically, she was not at meeting to accept congratulations, being injured!) Li, by proxy, thanks everyone who helped out at the rapier lists. Shlomo would like to thank himself for all the help he gave him with the pun contest. Ephraim's final words on the matter were that he could just about have stood up and read the entire Baronial Directory as his thank-you list, it really is everyone in the group who helps make an event like this come off. And to Timothy and Snowden: Tag, You're it! --------Here end the January Event Thank-Yous. Hoobah!---- If you haven't received your copy of the Baronial Confidence Poll, see Nial ASAP. He's leaving town for Alabama! But when Nial gets back, if you're interested in brewing things, he brought books and information on brewing to the meeting to share. There will be a coronation staff meeting Tuesday February 12th at Muldoons, in the downstairs party room. We have demos coming up in May, June and July, one in Shaker Heights, Darius' deputy, Sarah Rex, will be handling demo announcements for him from now until Coronation is overwith! Armorer's Guild- same bat-time, same bat-chanel. See Timothy, Ealdred, or Callum for details. Katheryn verch Rhys has a challenge for the barony: how many of you know one dance well enough to jump up and dance it without calling? (several hands went up). Other than Clifton Court? (Some of those hands went back down.) She challenges all old members of the barony to learn a new dance, after all, people here at their first meeting already did just that! Angharad had an adendum- Alys has said that she would like a dance performance during her coronation feast- now, normally that sort of thing means just six people or so- wouldn't it be incredibly spiffy if the whole barony did a dance together? If we could get thirty people to jump up and do a simple performance dance in feast, it would look cool. Edward FitzRanulf would like to see all rapier-inclined folks after meeting. Edward Brackenburye would like to speak to all the guild heads after meeting. Clariel is the gatekeeper for Coronation, and can start taking reservations at any time, but what she really wants right now are volunteers. See her. Also, she notes that Coronation feast is limited to 200, so reserving soon might be good. It's never to early to start thinking about Northern Oaken War Manuvers! Crispin has brought fliers for June's upcoming NOWM. Also, see him to volunteer to help out. Archery will be meeting Sunday, February 10th at Reagan and Imry's. Ephraim has the lost and found from First Khan-Tact. Included are a camera, a musical instrument, a camp chair, a squire's garter... see him if you've lost anything. Darius still has lost and found from last coronation! Ceinwen is looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen at coronation. It's never too early to volunteer, see her. Not to scare anyone, but Klaus reminds us all that Pennsic is only six months away! Now is the time to start if you want to make a pavillion for the war. He and Edward are putting in a bulk order for waterproof canvas. See them to get in on it, or to get help making your own period pavillion. There's a new Forum out, up on the Seneschal's table. Non-SCA Business:Katheryn verch Rhys is appearing in Beechwood Community Theater's _Wizard of Oz_ - see her for details. Also, the Chagrin Valley little theatre is doing _A Lion in Winter_ and is looking for help with authentic props. It's uncertain at this time if they'll also need garb. See Katheryn verch Rhys for details. Edward FitzRanulf is still trying to get rid of his car! 1992 Nissan Centra, standard shift, good condition, asking about $1900. Alianor has an eight year old spayed, declawed cat looking for a new home. Also, she would like to remind everyone that Playhouse Square Center is looking to raise funds. See her for details. Monty reports that in the near future the Natural History Museaum is planing an exhibit on Nautical Navigation history. From His Grace:First, in keeping with Monty and Alianor's announcements, His Grace commended the Cleveland cultural center and urged the populace to take advantage of the world-class museums, orchestra, and Playhouse. Second, if you take a look at our local event calander, you will see the events are increasing in proximity and number. We find ourselves in the most ambitious 18-month period in our history, with the tenth coronation in Cleftlands approaching, then Northern Oaken War Manuvers... standard bearer's in there somewhere, the War Season, and our King will be needing the barony's help there... we're booked through September. It's January! Laurelen strongly recomends that we do not take on any more kingdom-level events for some time after this. As Ephraim said, it does take the entire barony to put on an event. Everyone helps out. All of you who have worked so hard deserve to take a break, go out, and enjoy an event once in a while- shop rather than setting up merchants, eat rather than cook. We're all going to be very tired come September. Third, the usual after-event-speech: We are a very special group, it's not just because it's our group, but things are different here, and you should be pleased with it. He also mentioned that he was proud to see no problems on the lists, thanks to the conscientious marshalls and courteous fighters, adding that it's no small thing- we are out there hitting each other with weapons.
