The Royal GETS Prize Competition is shot using target and equipment standards from the Interkingdom Combat Archery Competition (IKCAC) rules, found at:
http://www.detommaso.org/ikac/ikcak/ikcac.html
Wearing heavy combat helm and half gauntlets, and using only their own personal fiberglass shafted combat arrows, combat archers participating in the GETS will shoot a simplified course of fire consisting of six arrows each at an IKCAC standard target at 10, 20, and 30 yards. Each hit will receive one point multiplied by the yardage of the target, and each hit in the center head and center torso “flapper” sections of the IKCAC target will receive an additional “X” point that will be used as a tie-breaker.
Archers are reminded that they are responsible for construction of their fiberglass shafted combat arrows to Society regulations, and to match them to the proper bow weights (e.g., Heavy self bows may not be used with any fiberglass shafted combat arrows, and only “Fellwalker” (non-Baldar-blunt) bolts may be used with Heavy crossbows). Parts for fiberglass shafted combat arrows, including UHMW blunts and complete kits for Fellwalker bolts, are only a quick web search away. Society combat arrow regulations are on pages 13 and 15-17 of the Society Marshal’s Handbook:

The combat archer having the highest score in any GETS leading up to Pennsic AND who participates in at least one of the Pennsic War Point battles using fiberglass shafted combat arrows will win the Fabulous Prize: a pair of custom Court gloves made to the winner’s measurements in the period style of the winner’s choice. In the case of a tie going into Pennsic, a shoot-off will be held at Pennsic to determine the winner.
Any and all groups that are hosting events leading up to Pennsic are welcome and encouraged to hold a segment of the GETS Competition.
Any group hosting a GETS may use their discretion in laying out the IKCAC targets at the 10, 20, and 30 yard ranges. At the hosting group’s discretion, one target may be shot at the three separate ranges using an advancing firing line, or three targets at the different ranges from the same firing line, as long as all safety requirements are met. The GETS may be held for a separate period or on a separate part of either the list field or target archery range as long as required safety zones are in place.
All combat archers participating in a GETS must have their helms and bows inspected by an appropriate heavy marshal prior to shooting the GETS. The appropriate heavy marshal will also conduct the preliminary inspection of the archer’s fiberglass shafted combat arrows, using the Society inspection procedure found at pages 25-26 of the Society Marshal’s Handbook.
The actual GETS shoot can be run by either an appropriate heavy marshal or by a target archery marshal, at the hosting group’s discretion. This marshal will reinspect all fiberglass shafted combat arrows shot during the course of the GETS, using the following secondary inspection procedure, prior to the arrows being used again:
Grab both head & tail and pull with moderate force while slightly twisting. If either end moves laterally it fails. . . . Check the shaft for signs of cracking or other failure. . . .
If the GETS is on a target archery range, the presiding target archery marshal on that range shall control any movement downrange by any person on the target archery range, including GETS competitors.
The marker will record the archer’s hits and misses on the score sheet provided at the end of these rules or an alternative that includes the same information. Each hit on the “flapper” sections at the center of the head and body of the IKCAC target will be recorded with an “X.” Any other hit on the target outside the “flapper” sections will be recorded with a “/.” Any miss will be recorded with a “0.”
Base scores will be calculated by adding the “X” and “/” hits for each range and multiplying the total by the range, e.g., 3X + 2/ = 5 hits, times 10 yards = 50; 1X + 3/ = 4 hits, times 20 yards = 80; 0X + 2/ = 2 hits, times 30 yards = 60. Total base score = 50 + 80 + 60 = 190. The total number of “X” hits are then recorded after the base score for the purpose of breaking any ties. In the example above, the final score would be recorded as 190-4X.
Final scores from any GETS Competition should be emailed to Duke Sir Alen Elegil at pcschillawski@sbcglobal.net. Only the calculated score itself (e.g. 150-5X) and the archer’s contact information need to be sent. Only the highest score for any individual archer should be sent, but the highest score for every archer shooting should be sent. All GETS scores must be received by Duke Alen by Tuesday, July 21 in order to be eligible for the GETS Fabulous Prize. Please note that the archer contact information is critical to insure that the winning archer receives the Fabulous Prize.
Archers may participate in the GETS at as many events that hold GETS prior to Pennsic as they may desire, in order to gain expertise and better their score.
